Character Info
Character Name} America (alias Alfred F. Jones)
Series} Axis Powers Hetalia: The Wiki!
Canon Point} Modern times. (July 3rd, 2013)
Age} Physically, 19. In actuality, it's harder to say. Although most nations call their "birthdays" the date they acquired independence from whatever nation ruled them before, some, of course, don't actually have birthdays in this sense and it is certain that many — if not all — of the personifications themselves existed long before these so-called birthdays. For America, if you begin at when Columbus accidentally discovered the Americas, he would be 520. That said, in Hetalia canon, England is his caretaker before the US revolution, so it's arguable that one should count his age from the year that the first British colony was established in North America, 1607, which would make him around 400 years, give or take, instead. However, Hetalia canon also explicitly depicts America as being alive and well at least a few years before meeting England, as it was Sweden and Finland who initially glimpsed the child nation as a toddler (with Netherlands beating up Sweden when he tried to capture baby America), which sparked yet more fighting between England and France. Historically, it was likely French Huguenots who first established a colonial village on the southeastern coast of present-day US in the 1500's that existed for at least a year, before Spanish conquistadors eventually moved in to claim the land. Therefore, my best guess for America's actual age, is at least around 440 years. This accounts for his existence as a human before even Sweden and Finland caught sight of him, as well as the involvings of Spain, which has never been mentioned in the Hetalia canon.
History} OU America | History of the United States of America
Personality} In one sentence, America is loud, proud, invasive, and vaguely clingy, depending on what the object of his affections means to him. He is extremely outgoing and friendship is a concept that's a simple one to him. It doesn't take much for him to decide he likes somebody and wants to spend time with them, even going so far as to push his energetic, boisterous companionship on those who don't really want it or aren't entirely comfortable with his brand of friendship. He's always willing to make friends and though he does often butt into other people's business with advice and suggestions and solutions that were never requested from him, let alone required, he generally means well, wishing to be "a hero" and help them out.

England and Japan are usually described as America's only real friends, because of his overbearing nature, and while this certainly seems true, other nations also have their moments where they obviously appear to be fond of America as well. Lithuania, especially, is one of these such important relationships to the young nation, for he even surprised England with how well he got along with America and how much he genuinely enjoyed living with him during his outsourcing following World War I. France treats America as a younger sibling or behaves like a parental figure towards him most of the time they interact and America rarely ever has any sort of issue with him in turn. Finland also expresses friendliness towards America during Christmas, when he tells the younger nation that he may call him "Papa" if he wants to, after America expresses feeling jealous of human families during the holidays. America also clearly knows how to throw a party, since most nations attend whenever he plans one, regardless of whether or not they really like him. This may in part be due to politics as well as America pressuring them (as he does to Japan one year for Christmas), but typically he's a good host, always insistent that his party guests enjoy themselves.

In addition to making spectacles when holidays come around (including his birthday, American Independence Day), America loves to be active and rarely fits into the scene with the older nations. As a child, he was often seen running around outdoors or playing with his animal friends. As a young teenager, England scolded him for his unkempt appearance and lack of manners. Now that he is an adult, he's still athletic, always participating in swimming contests with Prussia when the nations go to the beach, and having hobbies that include "quick-draw, archaeology, and adventures". He's also been seen dragging England's car around while looking for the older nation.

Despite his overly exuberant demeanor, America is also one of the few two-faced characters in canon. He's most likely to abuse his boyish charm to get his way or turn a scenario around to his advantage; he has a tendency to play dumb should a conversation or situation make him uncomfortable. America has a great sense of pride in his culture and his people, after all, just as all nations do, and it's this ego of his that often causes him to behave as such. He can be exceedingly selfish in this sense and a little guilty of focusing far too much on his own American perspective of the world. This includes his habit of intentionally trying to push people's buttons just to see what makes them tick or to get their attention sometimes, as is most notable in his interactions with England, given how he usually antagonizes him. In addition to the numerous examples where he does this with England, America also intentionally tries to offend Russia often. One example of this is in a BIRZ comic titled "International Relations" where America calls Russia a "bad guy" while grinning and then proceeds to laugh when he's obviously upset the other nation. Another example is in this strip where America, albeit under orders from his boss, attempts to sap Russia's self-esteem under the guise of trusting in Russia's abilities.

America can be sensitive and caring towards others, actually realizing when he's treading on delicate ground with them, but he often chooses not to outwardly acknowledge that he picks up on more than most people think he does, for one reason or another. Having a surplus of empathy, as far as he is concerned, stops him from accomplishing what he wants to, becoming more of a handicap than an advantage. It's actually stated in Himaruya's character notes that America can read the atmosphere, but chooses not to, as opposed to rarely ever being able to. Unlike, for example, Italy, one of the other characters often shown with a great inability to "read the atmosphere" , he does know the difference between being offensive and not, but simply chooses not to act in the manner that is most "politically correct" or most tactful. This ties in with his habit of being purposely irritating, which is exemplified above.

This does not mean America is without compassion and empathy though. Admittedly, he is intentionally insensitive at most times and terribly self-absorbed, but when matters are very serious and/or deeply personal to him, he shows a surprising amount of compassion. The most notable examples of this are during the world meeting that occurred because of the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and the ensuing Great Depression. Because the world economies were in shambles and he was to blame for it, America showed sincere remorse, apologizing repeatedly to all of the nations gathered in spite of their persistent anger and scorn. America's more vulnerable emotions are also exemplified by his sentimentality towards possessions of his that were given to him by England during his time as the older nation's colony. He obviously cares about England, despite all their arguing and their complicated past history, as is seen further in how he worries about his well-being when England is attacked by Germany during WWII.

Another noteworthy instance of America's more agreeable side is how gracious he is when accepting birthday gifts from his fellow nations. He is extremely grateful for the nations just thinking of him at all. He likes attention, going so far as to be petty about it when there are more important matters to take care of, but he's not too picky about what sort of attention he gets.

There is no canon sexual orientation for America, however the only time he seems to balk at the topic of sex is when it occurs in public (such as when France presents him with a censored, vibrating gift for his birthday one year and when England compliments him on the sexy waiter costume that Spain anonymously blackmailed him into wearing.) With no specification in the canon source, I assign bisexuality to him, with a very slight self-proclaimed bias towards females, though in truth, he has none. Rather, it is more correct to say that he is biased towards those he has a close, emotional bond to. Although heteronormative behavior and thinking has been traditional in his culture for many centuries, America himself does not presume heterosexuality in others — at least not anymore.

As for personal sexual and romantic relationships, America views the subject of unions between two or more people differently than humans, since marriage for nations is often a political, economical, and military alliance amongst themselves. For example, France proposes to England at one point in canon, and Hungary and Austria actually marry. Also, currently, the closest thing to an alliance of this sort that America has with another nation is the "Special Relationship" (as coined by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill on February 16th of 1944) with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It's significant to note, however, that this relationship is of a different nature than the aforementioned examples, because while the nations have close ties with one another, they remain separate.
Abilities} In canon, Alfred is the personification of the United States of America. Nations are born completely human, but not much is known about how they become personifications. As a nation, America has freakish super-human strength that even other personifications like him do not possess. He is immortal, since when nations are dissolved, the personifications either may return to a human state, if they were previously unacknowledged by the world as an independent nation (such as the micro-nations are), or they may remain alive as the representation of their culture and/or the geographical land where their territories formerly were (see Prussia).
Baggage} One modern-day outfit consisting of a T-shirt, a WWII-era bomber jacket, jeans, socks, and shoes. Glasses (not prescription). Wallet, cell phone, and car keys.
Notes}

America stands at 6'1", with dirty blonde hair and bright blue eyes. The geographical area that makes up the United States is big and America's own hobbies and interests lend to the conclusion that he is rather solidly built. However, he's not extremely muscular either, as several times in canon, other nations tease him about his body, calling him fat in many instances. There is an entire strip revolving around America's body image, in fact, where he becomes obsessed with dieting and losing weight, despite having more muscle mass than actual body fat. America also has a few scars scattered on his body, from being involved in past wars, since nations often serve within their own military and he is no exception.

Third Person: Almost a year had passed since last Alfred had been this far south in his own lands. The nation usually made a point to see his states more than he’d been able to lately, but the aftermath of the presidential election had kept him plenty busy, and visiting just wasn’t feasible when there was so much work to be done. In the last twenty or so years, the personifications had taken more of a backseat to their bosses’ jobs — some more than others — but America had always tried to be different. Well, Alfred was trying to be different again, but change was difficult, and terrifying, and even confusing, especially now, when there was so much on the line.

The tranquility of the blue and green landscape as it blurred by was calming— or at least it would have been, if it’d been allowed to remain intact, that is. No, as Alfred drove himself closer to the Alabama home of one of his favorite citizens, he turned up the radio, letting loud rock music split the air, letting his left hand surf through the whipping winds, "calm" was not exactly the word he’d use to describe how he felt. For the first time in a while, he wasn’t distracted by a world of stress. He felt... collected. Free. Genuinely happy.

Once he killed the engine, abruptly cutting off the wailing of a very well-known American guitar, he hopped out onto the dirt path and finally took in his surroundings. He was on the edge of the property, and it’d take a while still to get up to the house, but he didn’t mind the walk so much. Truthfully, he was just glad to have the time to appreciate how rid of the rat race he was out here for a little while. Despite where he lived now and how he prided himself on being up-to-date with cutting-edge technology in all fields of his existence, America had begun his life centuries ago as a simple country boy too, and there was something about being this close to where he’d actually been born long before he’d ever met England, that made him remember that.

[OOC]

Backtagging: Yes! I can be a really slow tagger when life gets busy and such, so if I'm invested in the thread, I will always reply to tags for it. The only time I may ask to just leave the thread where it is, is if it's not particularly plot-related and it's been several weeks since I have had time to tag it. I will always clear dropping a thread with you first though.
Threadhopping: Usually yes! It may be good to ask me first, just in case, and definitely always get the other player's permission first too.
Fourthwalling: Hey, if we can make CR out of it, go ahead! America will laugh and then never mention it again.
Offensive subjects: Eh, none. I'm not an easy person to offend, honestly. If bringing something up in a thread with me makes you wary/uncomfortable, just ask me and I'll tell you how I feel about it. I will always do this for you.

[IC]

Hugging this character: America loves hugs!
Kissing this character: America loves kisses! Platonic ones are perfectly fine with both us. Romantic kisses are fine with me, but he may either be offended or flustered if he doesn't reciprocate the feeling.
Flirting with this character: Yes! He will most likely be amused and flattered, with high chances of flirting right back. If he's not comfortable though, he'll pretend he doesn't realize he's being hit on.
Sex with this character: If you can seduce him, by all means, hahah. I'm perfectly okay with writing smut. I will probably approach you first for clearance/feedback/limits if things seem to be heading that way.
Shipping with this character: Please. I... kind of permanently have shipping goggles on anyway, so if there's chemistry between the characters, yes. I don't care who you play! I'm not picky about shipping like that. :3a
Fighting with this character: Yes, yes! I love fights! Give me a heads-up first OOC so we can plan it out more though.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Yep. All good.
Killing this character: Yes, but speak with me first.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Usually okay, but clear it with me first.

Warnings
:
Given the nature of America's canon, logically speaking, he would at least have heard of a good majority of other characters in-game— as works of fiction. He's hugely into video games, has a working knowledge of Japanese anime/manga (because the personification of Japan is one of his BFF's), and he also holds every significant and/or popular product of American culture as very dear to him. However, unless you've given me specific permission otherwise, I will always presume he does not know your character(s) regardless of how important their canon is within the context of American pop culture.

If you're fine with the canon puncture, please leave me a note here on this post!
